Nineteenth Annual Report to the Prime Minister on the Public Service of Canada

To continue to provide advice to government and service to Canadians with excellence, it is vital to renew all of the core functions of the Public Service -- policy, regulation, program and service delivery, and management/ administration. In my Eighteenth Annual Report to the Prime Minister on the Public Service of Canada, I asked deputy ministers to report on their efforts and accomplishments in support of renewal. In particular, I asked that deputy ministers report on their achievement of excellence under the following themes:

  1. Engaging Employees in the Excellence Agenda
    • Goals for achieving excellence across business lines
    • Understanding organizational capacity and addressing gaps
    • Increasing employee engagement
  2. Renewing the Workforce
    • Managing people, performance and knowledge
    • Incorporating diversity
    • Supporting both official languages
  3. Renewing the Workplace
    • Planning
    • Collaboration
    • New ways of working

The submissions featured many worthy initiatives and the following provide a sample of the system-wide efforts being undertaken across the Public Service. They demonstrate how the Public Service is responding to technological and cultural changes and how it is adapting and transforming to improve efficiencies and meet citizens’ expectations. With this continued commitment to pursuing improvements, I am confident that the Public Service will transform itself for today and for the future.
